why kde3.5 used such mem 933M?

On slackware11,why dragging&dropping windows of application was very slow after xmms and mplayer were being used for 2 or 3 hours?and
used 'free' dislayed that mem 933M was being used in Kconsole,why kde3.5 dont free mem resources for other applications??????
