KPP troubleshooting

I an using Fedora Core 5 , my linux knowledge is relatively less. I am using a serial, dial-up modem. I was able to cnnect to the internet using kpp. once i changed the modem speed under modem tag under kpp. I am no longer able to access the net. Modem query works properly after entering cmands. when tying to connect I am getting message that 'modem is ready' and 'initialising the modem'. There after there is nothing happens and connection does not establishes.

I tried to correct ppp conf and wvdial conf . But no luck.

any kind of adivce would be apreciated
