Online gaming by remote control programs or other ways

will anyone please explain to play games connecting two computer over internet each other? There is some free programmes as VNC , logmein etc. How can two person connect each other and play multiplayer games? But not connecting to a game server over internet. One the person should be server and other should connect that person. (But not using phone number just over internet) Thanks.
