Quanta Plus character encoding problem

I'm having an odd problem with Quanta Plus, which I'm using on SUSE 10.1 with Gnome as the main desktop.

When go to File -> Open, the character encoding selected in the top right pull-down menu is koi8-r. I can of course change this, but every time Quanta starts up, it reverts to the same.

If I look in the Quanta+ settings, Settings -> Configure Editor -> Open/Save shows that the default encoding is "KDE Default". Changing this to utf8 doesn't alter what I have described above. Besides, KDevelop, Kile and Kate all have the same "KDE Default" setting and none of them display this problem.

Settings -> Configure Quanta shows that the default character encoding is utf8.

I'm therefore at a loss to work out why Quanta should behave like this (which it did in Ubuntu, too, incidentally). Any ideas?

Looking on bugs.kde.org I came across this: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85294 But I'm not sure it's related.

I stumbled upon your post in search of an overall change of character encoding in KDE... this KDE default - I am still searching.

Well if you have already change the encoding in both Settings -> Configure Editor -> Open/Save and Settings -> Configure Quanta, you should also try tools > encoding as quanta remembers which encoding any open document is using - and which documents you have open, even after you exit. So changing the encoding in Settings only changes enconding for the next documents you open... don't know if you have considered this. Hope you figure it out

If you are working on a project in Quanta Plus you also need to change the "Default encoding" under Project->Project Properties. Only changing under Settings->Configure Editor->Open/Save and under Settings->Configure Quanta->Environment is in this case not enough.
