KDM - Background

Why do the images you choose in Control Center for your background not work? All the KDM config files that I know of look ok. I know there must be a simple trick. What is it? The same thing happens in GnomeDM actually. Themes are ok, but when you choose an individual image, no go.

RE: KDM - Background

Yes I love this question I have dealt with it many times. Ok to start many distros fix it so you can't change their default kdm settings without hand editing the kdmrc file. Since I don't know what distro you're dealing with I am going to suggest you do a file search for kdmrc.

As root edit the file and place a # in front of the line Theme=

That will solve your problem. BTW it will also change how your login screen looks.

RE: KDM - Background

hey houston.

dallas here.

I have actually done all that and still no deal.

i'm using fedora c5.

boy that sound so microsoft about the distros. not exactly the linux mindframe.

turning the themes off works for everything but the background image. i found some cool themes that get me what i want, but i'd still like to know what depths i need to go to for the ability to just do the image if i wish.

RE: KDM - Background

Are you sure you are running KDM and not GDM? Did you make the required change to the desktop file?

RE: KDM - Background

yup. i have DISPLAYMANAGER=KDE. KDM is running the dm, it just doesn't show the background that listed in kdmrc. the same thing happens in gdm as well.

RE: KDM - Background

Your desktop file should have this:

DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE"

Just want to make sure because I also run FC5 and have no issues with KDM like this.
