"ksycoca" : a file location and links

Hi,
I have installed KDE 3.4.2-0 running on Fedora 3.
On a "user" account some kde applications do not run.
For instance, "kompare" gives an error message "Could not find our KompareViewPart".
Following some advice I have tried to fix the configuration by updating "sycoca".

I found in the KDE manual the location of a file should be
$KDEHOME/share/config/ksycoca, e.g. ~user/.kde/share/config/ksycoca
In my case the actual situation is different.
There is a file : /var/tmp/kdecache-user/ksycoca
There is a link : /tmp/kde-user/ksycoca -> /var/tmp/kdecache-user/ksycoca

My question is
What links to "ksycoca" or configuration files should be
on a "user" account to have the KDE application working properly?

Thanks.

My current KDE settings on a "user" account are
Qt: 3.3.4 ; KDE: 3.4.2-0.fc3.2 Red Hat ; kde-config: 1.0
