kwallet: strange behaviour

On my computer kwallet (KDE 3.5.x) is used and worked a long time - then suddenly after a restart, maybe after KDE had crashed during shutdwon (which is somhow normal on suse 9.3), kwallet does strange things.

Not all old sites have known passworts anymore, and moreover kwallet does not even try to save the passwort. Next kmail does not know any passwort anymore. Disabling kwallet for kmail and use the plain text PW save does not work either. No Server login is possible anymore. With thunderbird and the same (correct) PW the login works without a problem.

What to do to reanimate kwallet to a correct state ?
