connecting to my LAN

i am new to linux and i am not sure how to connect my machine to my broadband internet connection.

i am running redhat linux with kde release 2.2-11, and i currently have the konquerer and mozilla web browsers. my network consists of a windows 98 pc and the linux box. i am trying to share my cable internet connection with the linux machine via a router. i have everything connected properly, but when i try to browse the web i get the error message "unknown host" which i assume means that i am not connected.

my question is, how can i get this thing online?

any suggestions would be great. thanks!
