How to stop akregator re-fetching feeds

I'm new to akregator and it's the first news reader I've tried and I have a few small issues with it.
When fetching feeds, it keeps re-fetching some of the same feeds over and over again.
For example, I fetched all feeds today, read them and deleted them all then fetched all again. It fetched maybe 2 or 3 of the ones I had read and deleted but not all of them, it seems completely random and it will often keep fetching a particular feed over and over again.
I've tried disabling archiving and I've tried setting it to delete all articles older than 2 days but I still have articles from when I started using it several days ago.
Finally, has anyone tried sharing the feedlist between akregator and liferea?
I'm using akregator on suse and debian and liferea on ubuntu dapper and have put the opml file on a shared partition with symlinks pointing to it. Liferea is working fine but with akregator, on both suse and debian, gives an error box on startup saying that akregator is already running on another display and archiving needs to be disabled (even when it was disabled).
Removing the symlink and restoring the file to /.kde/apps/akregator/data directory and the error goes away.
