can start kde3.5 in gnome but not in....

Well, i set up the environment in bash_profile and bashrc but still can't startkde (3.5). However, from terminal in gnome, i can startkde and kde3.5 run ontop of gnome. What i am missing?

Put the path to your startkde script in ~/.xinitrc if you start X with the startx command. You can also use KDM to specify which environment to load.

I have no ~/.xinitrc in my home directory. Can you be more specific about use KDM to load particular enviroment. Thanks for (quick) reply"

/opt/kde/bin/startkde > ~/.xinitrc
for example if your startkde lives in /opt/kde/bin.

KDM is a display manager, which allows you to graphically log into the system. It has a menu button where you can specify which desktop environment to load. You should check your distro specific software if KDM is installed and configured as the default display manager.

sorry the late reply, i couldn't connect to the server at the time but now i can tell you that i still can't get kde3.5 start. I stumble on kde3.5 install documents and in the way to create .xinitrd and .xsession, i just add one line "startkde" in both files and change my login manager to kdm, too. Nothing change! Some element is still missing. What else i can try on?
