Hard connnection for kopete 0.11 video chat in SuSE 10.0 ...

I used kopete 0.11 to video chat with my friends all around the world. I found that kopete is not that stable. I mean sometimes, the connection is fine, but sometimes not...
It might be the band width of the internet. But, I'm still not satisfied with the connection of kopete

Can any guru tell me how you realize the connection and how you realize the image compression in kopete?
