Screensaver not starting after mplayer

I have noticed that the KDE screensaver will not start or power management will not suspend the monitor after I play a video file with mplayer. Anyone ever had this happen?
Life is better with the Penguin!

Same issue here using gentoo. Still exploring differences between xscreensaver and kscreensaver. No solution yet so any help appreciated.

mplayer itself used? i'd try kaffeine or kmplayer?!? i dunno what mplayer damages, but it might not happen with these other players.
