Stop of the process treating the protocol file

Hello,

With the starting of KDE, I obtain the following message from time to time (this is a translation of the French message):

"The process treating the protocol file stopped in an unexpected way"

Result: No icon appears on my desk.

How to correct this problem?

Thank you for help.

The error message might be from a specific application (kicker perhaps?), which app is involved?

Also, have a look at the following files in order to see if some errors are reported:
/var/log/messages
/var/log/xdm.log
/var/log/kdm.log

Also, you might have something in your kernel that does not function the right way, type:

Source code

1
dmesg

in a console an look out for errors.

Post occuring error messages if you need help ;)

Hi,

I thank you for having answered quickly.

Happily, my problem seems to have disappeared. Undoubtedly a problem of configuration.

I looked in the files log that you indicated to me. These files indicate several errors but without obvious relationships to the problem mentioned.

Well, I put this problem on the ice! Thank you for your assistance.

If you see error messages in these files, try to fix these errors. Even if they sometimes seen not to affect your system, the usually slow it down. On the other hand, they might be the reason for some future problems. ;)

Good Luck
