kdewallet doesn't accept password after upgrade

hi, after upgrading ubuntu and trying to upgrade K to 3.5, both causing trouble (most of which I am going to live with until the dapper drake stable release in april), this is the worst left:

I enter the kdewallet password at every K startup because it wants to log in kopete. which, basically, is brilliant. but since I've got this different-looking version of K which still wants to be called 3.4.3 (see also http://www.kde-forum.org/artikel/14038/p…grading-35.html ) the wallet won't accept my password (and don't tell me I get it wrong I've been typing it at least once each day for weeks)

so what can I do? completely remove the wallet and install it again?
Gravity sucks!
