kooka

I'm running KDE 3.4.2 "level b" on Suse 10 and am using xsane 0.97-6 and kooka 0.44. My Epson Perfection 4180 PHOTO (USB) scanner works great with The Gimp. I fire up the scanner, click on "File > Acquire > XSane: Device dialog..." in The Gimp and everything is groovy. The scanner is immediately detected by xsane, the xsane gui fires up and I can scan till the cows come home.

I never had a reason to try kooka until a few days ago when it was recommended by a friend. It looks like a kick ass application but kooka doesn't see the scanner and I haven't been able to figure out why. What hooks has The Gimp got that kooka hasn't?

System details upon request.
