probs upgrading 3.5

hi,

synaptic says everything is version 3.4.3
kde-config -v claims that too (Qt: 3.3.4, KDE: 3.4.3)

but when I do apt-get install kdebase kdm
this is what I get back:
kdebase is already the newest version.
kdm is already the newest version.

the K menu looks different, with different games and a system settings instead of control centre.

what can I do?
could it be that I have ver 3.5 and that no-one informed my ubuntu on that? but then why should kde-config not know about it?
Gravity sucks!
