Can Icons be Displayed Conditionally?

Does anyone know if it is possible to display Icons on the Desktops based on certain conditions.

In my case I would like to achieve the following.
Desktop 1: Only Application Icons dealing with Internet access
Desktop 2: Application Icons for development applications
Desktop 3: Icons for writing applications

etc.

As it is now my desktop is to full and cluttered with Icons and I'd like to separate my work areas to different Desktops.

I'm currently using KDE 3.3 with SuSe 9.2.

Thanks in advance

Andy Potter
