Audio only with Kopete in KDE 3.5.

I have just installed KDE 3.5 on Vextor Linux Soho 5.0. I want to use Kopete on the Yahoo network using just audio, not webcam (as I don't have one).
However, the configuration refers to webcam setup but nothing for audio. Could someone please explain how I can get audio only working.
Many thanks.

For some weird reason even though audio support was advertised... there is no audio support. :) Sorry mate.

Audio on Kopete.

Thanks Mebrelith for your response.
It strikes me as quite odd that you would build in webcam support WITHOUT audio support, never mind the aspect of false advertising.
Could someone from the Kopete or KDE team kindly explain this strange anomaly to me?

RE: Audio on Kopete.

Where did you read that? I had a quick look into KDE's feature list for 3.5, but I didn't see a line about audio support.

Thanks bram85 for your question.
I got the impression that Kopete would support audio as well as webcams from here:

http://www.kde.org/announcements/visualguide-3.5.php

It states 'With support for audio and video devices.....'
And it STILL strikes me as odd that webcam support would be included without audio support.
Please don't get me wrong - I know that this is free open source software and I am generally otherwise very pleased with how well linux in general and KDE in particular has developed.
There just seems to be an anomaly with this particular issue.

Which protocol are you using? MSN and Yahoo got webcam support in KDE 3.5. Maybe audio is not implemented in the protocol you're using, and is it implemented for the other one.

I don't actually know, since I don't use webcam support. It's just a wild guess. :)

Thanks again bram85.
I am using the Yahoo protocol, which does indeed support voice chat through their own Yahoo voice servers. I normally use this in WinXP and I would like to be able to also use it through Linux.
Trust that helps.

umm

speaking of false advertizing, yahoo webcam support doesn't exist, either, unless i'm mistaken. i bought a cheap (but working and linux-compatible) webcam just for kopete. kopete recognizes it and i can see images from it with no problem. however, there is no way to "broadcast" webcam images.

so, unless i'm just confused and there's some hidden button/menu item, yahoo webcam support doesn't exist.

i finally installed the newest version via cvs, and the yahoo webcam works, but i'm still having problems. it could just be my webcam, but the person on the other end receives the picture as being extremely desaturated and extremely low-contrast, so all she sees is a faint, gray outline of me. it looks fine on my end. the adjustment sliders for the webcam still do not save or seem to have any effect.

audio support

So far, the audio/video code is video only, since that's what we know how to implement. We don't know how to implement any of the audio capabilities for any of the protocols yet. so that's why there's no audio support.

Yahoo support for webcams should be much improved with 0.12 with both sending and receiving supported, although no audio yet
