The problem is with the ACPI handling of ASUS laptops.

Put this into /usr/share/services/kded/kmilod.desktop:

Source code

1
2
X-KDE-Kded-autoload=false
X-KDE-Kded-load-on-demand=false

You can disable autoloading of kmilo by click-and-go also useing your control panel. You will find it somewhere under the KDE components. (Sorry, but I am useing a Hungarian KDE.)

You can disable it safely, because kmilo is in charge of the extra buttons on your laptop (ex: open web browser, e-mail client, etc), which do not function under current KDE's ACPI implementation.

I've found the same workaround at http://wingware.com/support/asus_z63a_ubuntu_5.10 , and some other forums.
