Help with composite problem

Hi everyone,
I wanted to try out this composite thingie in order to get translucent windows in kde... so far so good, it didn't work. The problem is, that I can't swich back to the normal setting since my kde freezes each time I open kcontrol. It seems to freeze when opening other apps as well, like akregator. but the worst is that even launching konqueror freezes the machine!!!!

I checked a hadful of config files in ~/.kde/share/config but nothing seems to match with the setting.

Is there someone who can tell me where this setting is saved?
I'd be grateful for your clues.

I found the problem all by myself ;)

The RenderAccel option in xorg.conf is the source of the error. Disabling it makes kde work fine again.
But without rendering acceleration, composite features are unusable, it makes kde soooooo slow, you have time to get yourself a coffee while konqueror opens...

It's appearently a known bug, I found traces of it in nvidia's buglists. Let's hope that the next driver version will fix the thing.
