kate - display whitespaces and tabs

hello,

i am using kate since quite a while, and also build some syntax files for own needs. But till now i couldnt get kate to display all white spaces like those whitespaces in empty lines. See the attachment.

the reason is, that i want to see, without to go there with the cursor, if the spaces infront of a line with content are all spaces or are tabs or mixes of both and if there are trailing whitespaces.

anyone got any idea?
