Kmail events

I have an email LED on my laptop which would be very useful to use. (It is also a very nice blue so it seems a shame to waste it) I've written a script to toggle it on/off but Kmail only seems to use the KDE notify framework for new mail - thus there is no way of toggling the LED off again once the mail has been read.

Is there any way for Kmail to notify external programs/scripts on BOTH receiving new mail and again when that mail is read?

I am pretty sure (as in all my KMail's have that option) that there is a notification option to execute an external program

Thank you for the reply.

There is an option to execute an external program when you recieve mail, but no option to execute a program when you have read the new mail. So I can turn the LED on but I can't turn it off!

If I have to make it more complicated and check the status via a DCOP call or similar that would be OK. If no-one knows of an easier way, I will look at the developer docs for KMail.
