desktop icons keep moving, don't maintain position

Two of my icons keep moving everytime I restart the system (KDE 3.3.2). Searching the internet I've been unable to find a solution (there are no hidden .desktop files, there are no auto-arrange settings enable, they are not dynamic icons being moved, there is no SuSe icon watcher).

There is nothing special about the two icons: I have two pairs of icons, two thunderbird icons, and two openoffice icons, one of each pair gets moved!
It isn't even the rightmost one from each pair being moved, one is the left of the pair, the other is the right of the pair.

How can I get this to stop happening, it is very annoying!

Details:
Mepis 3.3.1 (with apt-get upgrade unstable)
KDE 3.3.2
Panel bar/kicker on right side of screen
1027x768 screen
ECS A520 laptop

try turning on your desktop setting automatically line up icons
also try not moving your taskbar (turning on Hide automatically from panel menu)

RE: desktop icons keep moving, don't maintain position

hi, i'm getting the same, all my icons appear to be messed up, i've tryed to change this setting:
Control Center -> Appearance & Themes -> Background -> Advanced Options -> Width for icon text (set to 90, was auto or something...)
without any luck, after this i've rebooted the system, but now, the icons are all messed up, this is really anoying :|

This issue is fixed in KDE 3.5. The Kicker and KDesktop developers have seen the light and together they fixed this very annoying bug.

You may try Enterra Icon Keeper . It is an elegant solution to the icons arrangement problem. It works fine for me, so I think it also must be helpful for you. Though it's shareware you can try it for free.
