kaddressbook: public-private-confidential

There is an option to make contacts "Public", "Private" or "Confidential". What effect does this setting have? I was hoping that "Private" contacts might be omitted from synchronisation by multisynk, but this does not seem to be the case.

I think it changes how contacts are visible in shared addressbooks on groupware servers.

There has been a thread on either the kde-pim or kdepim-users mailinglist about this.
