Kmail import olduser to new user
Hi All,
I am trying to import all of my Kmail folders from one user to another user in Fedora Core 4 because my KDE user account settings became faulty and KDE stopped loading at the gear symbol (farthest on the right in the opening window) at the 80 to 90% mark. There was a message that mentioned something about 'Xsession error'. Log in was OK in Gnome. I backed up the entire /home directory to 'olduser' and then made a new user 'newuser' and logged into KDE no problems.
But now I'm unable to import all the Kmail local folders over to newuser from olduser ? I tried to use Kmail/Tools/Import but there isn't a Kmail source, altough there's lot's of other email programs listed. I tried for plain text and prefixed the Mail directory name with "PLAIN-" but it didn't work. All the permissions and group settings in the /home/newuser/Mail directory and their recursive directories/files are set to newuser.
Would anyone know how to transfer all the olduser Kmail folders and any other pertinent Kmail settings from olduser to newuser? Would anyone know why KDE settings for olduser became faulty or how to reset them if and when they ever go faulty again in the future.
cheers,
Denis Casserly
I usuall transfer the Mail directory like this:
Pack into archive
#> tar cvjf mail.tar.bz2 Mail/
move archive file
unpack archive
#> tar xvjf mail.tar.bz2
If you do this in KDE3.4 make sure you have it unpacked before you start KMail for the first time, otherwise KMail will create a new mail directory somewhere in .kde and ignore /home/username/Mail
Cheers,
