KDE3.4 Cygwin Problems with Konsole

When I start Konsole the prompt is a set of escape sequences(\e[\0] etc. This is clearly my home directory (which is my shell prompt) not being interpreted. Xterm works fine and the mis interpretaion of the escape sequences is independent of how I configure the Konsole shell. E.G which shell type

Can anyone help

The problem is the interpretation of the Bash PS1 variable. If I start Konsole with Konsole --ls then I don't get the raw escape sequneces but PS1 in .bashrc is ignored. Can anyone help.
