Gnome desktop runs automatically under KDE desktop

I've noticed that the Gnome desktop is running under my KDE desktop, which must have started when I ran a gnome app. I see the Gnome desktop for a fraction of a second when KDE starts and exits.

Also, if I rotate the screen 90 degrees counterclockwise the KDE desktop does not resize. This means I can see the Gnome desktop extended beneath the bottom border of the KDE one, and can switch to the Gnome desktop by clicking on it. I can then switch back to the KDE desktop by clicking the Desktop 1 box in the KDE panel, which is still visible when viewing the Gnome desktop.

It's an odd problem but doesn't seem to be causing performance issues.

Any ideas on how to stop the Gnome desktop in KDE and keep it from starting again?

Thanks,

Jeff Drouin
