kde keyboard problem

I recently installed kubuntu(ubuntu with KDE as window manager) on my PC. Everything worked fine. Then one day for no apparent reason the keyboard stopped working. Obviously because i installed some kde package or other which i can not remember. The keyboard works fine in gnome so presumable it is not a hardware problem. I completely removed all KDE applications and reinstalled kubuntu from scratch. The problem persists. KDE seems to loose the keyboard some time during initialization. I've tried turning on/off the numlock key. For a while this works. Then when the kde displays "setting desktop environment" the keyboard freezes and never recovers. The mouse works fine. I've tried changing the settings but nothing works. As soon as i switch to gnome the keyboard recovers. From the symptoms i do not think that it is an xorg or hardware issue. Methinks, since both KDE and GNOME use the same xorg settings, that it has something to do with the KDE configuration. Anybody with some similar problem has any ideas. Thanking you in advance for any help.

RE: kde keyboard problem

I have exactly the same problem. For some reason, the keyboard does not respond whenever kde is loaded. When I replace the session to gnome, it works fine. I also noticed that the keyboard problem only occurs in one of my login accounts. When i login in another account using KDE (such as root), the keyboard works fine. I am using the following KDE version: 3.5.6-0.3.fc6 Fedora-Core
