KDE apps won't start in Debian Etch - Solved

This might not be the right place for this question but I thought I'd try:
I just installed the KDE metapackage in Debian Etch. KDE starts, but trying to start any of the programs results in a floating point exception. Any idea what could be causing this? Sorry if this is a bit vague, I'm not sure what info I should include.

For starters, info on your cpu/machine setup versus current running Kernel could prove useful. Like, is this the right kernel for your machine? I mean jsut because it boots does not neccessariy mean all is good in userland. Did you try running aptitude with the '-f install' tag? You might have some missing dependencies, although it sounds more like you are butting heads with a kernel mismatch, due to the FPU exception error.
Maybe just post your output from

#:/hardinfo

Thanks for your reply. Originally I did think that it was something to do with the kernel. It turns out that this was the problem. Once I got the display size set everything worked, so now I'm enjoying my KDE desktop :)
