Request color-inversion assitance for near-blind user

Request assistance, cross-posting tomorrow to xorg forums, require assistance in locating a viable solution to the following problem: one of my Visually impaired coworkers, circa 75%, ergo legally blind yet still partially sighted, has requested me to assist him in setting his current kde desktop to display all colors inverted. It appears that the facilitation he requires exceeds simple solutions, i.e. scheme changes, color settings for kde etc, due to his desire to also have internet content, images and all program displays inverted. Interestingly he has found in kmag (screenmagnifier) a function of color inversion which works satisfactorily in principle, however, the program itself does not provide him with the flexibility to work and surf as he had hoped.

I, for my part, had origininally thought, beginning some time last week that this would simply be a question of finding an appropriate display option. I have found little in the internet to lead me to believe that this sort of chromatic inversion is not generally supported by the x server, but am finding no information of help to solve this problem. Any general, or specific, pointers would be gladly appreciated.

with thanks,
Vik

RE: Request color-inversion assitance for near-blind user

I too would love to see this feature.

When I had a mac I would use "apple + ctl + opt + 8" to invert the screen colors. It is so much easier on the eyes, and supposedly saves battery power since black pixels aren't illuminated.

It seems like this would be easy to implement. In the accessibility panel there is an option to have the screen invert in place of the system beep/bell, as documented here:

http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase/kc…cess/index.html

There must be away to make the screen just, stay inverted. If I knew what to look for in the source of kcmaccess I would dig on my own.

I think accessibility is a priority, and such a feature would make KDE better for people who have visual impairments.

Thanks for any help!

I think this is possible with Beryl, but I cannot verify since I've never used it. But I hope this is something in the right direction.
