removing icons from desktop

Hey all,
How does one permanently remove all icons (include the Trash) from the
KDE (on FreeBSD 5) desktop?

Control Center->Desktop->Behaviour
Uncheck "activate icons on desktop"

(translated from German KDE, names may be different)
