Konqueror Lan Browsing

Please help identifying my problem with lan browsing within konqueror

I am having the identical problem on various versions runnin RedHat 8, Mandrake 8.2 and Mandrake 8.0. I am assuming most of the network configuration is corrent on all because if I mount directly with the following command "mount -t smbfs //computer/share /temp" things work perfectly. I can access all win-shares as needed.
The problem is browsing from within konqueror, running the various lan://comp/ or smb:/comp/ may or may not reveal the available shares.
on at least the RH8 machine the shares are revealed, when browsing deeper the user and password dialog pops up, after entering some valid information I get an error message "error hmm..."

Has anyone seen this problem and if so how easily is it fixed.

Thanks in advance for any help

Gary

Yes lisa is running at least under RH8

I have not figured how to start lisa automatically under RH8, but I start her from shell and recieve success message ending with "have fun!"

I beleive under Mandrake 9.0 running lisa from shell I recieve error message something like unable to load tcp error, I am not sure but lisa may already be running here.

Thank Again

Me, too.

I am using RH8 and cannot even get the lan://localhost to work. It says "cannot connect." smb:// in Gnome works fine.
What gives? Lisa not right? How to tell if it is running?
Thanks.

what packages regarding network sharing are installed, you'll need these if not more:

smbfs
smbclient
samba
samba-doc (always helps)

linneighborhood is a good program to view your network shares. in konqueror smb://computername SHOULD work. i dont use Lisa because i consider it a waste of resources.

command line mount ok.

the mount -t smbfs, etc... works fine from the CLI, so I believe samba is set up ok. When I do a lan://localhost or IP address it does not connect. I downloaded LinNeighborhood and it all works, too. I am trying to get to the bottom of the native KDE problems. Waste of time? What should I look at to get lan://localhost to connect?
Thanks.

Related problem - one year later

Hi, I just posted a new topic about a problem with Konqueror using smb://machine/ to see the available shares. It doesn't work for me. Konqueror calls smbclient and smbclient waits a password that Konqueror does not pass, so smb://machine/ does not work but smb://machine/share does.
