Font configuration

I have compiled and installed kde 3.4 beta2 using konstruct. Now fonts:/ is not recognised by kde. Also bitstream-vera-ttf fonts are not shown in the font chooser of kontrol center. What am I missing? How do I get and install missing kio slaves?

I want to note that you're working with a beta release.
And the problem you have might be a bug in that release.
I'm not sure about that though.
