I'm running Fedora Core 2, which has a default Gnome gui, but I have found that KDE fits my needs better. Originally, I used Desktop Switcher, however I found that I had to logoff to shutdown my 'puter, an extra step (okay, I'm a lazy guy). So, I changed /etc/sysconfig/desktop from DESKTOP="GNOME" to DESKTOP="KDE" DISPLAYMANAGER=”KDE” which works well, except that now there's a logon screen every time I boot. (Yep, got to put in a password every time, which is tedious for a lazy guy).
I've gone into the Configure-Login Manager and, under the Convenience tab, have clicked the 'enable auto-login' for myself, also have clicked myself as the 'pre-selected user' and 'enable password-less logins' for myself. All of them result in a pop-up at logon saying 'authentication failed' prior to going to the logon screen.
Does anyone know what file is being checked for 'authentication'? Perhaps it can be edited?
