Perhaps a cookie problem

I don't stay logged in. Perhaps your cookie path in admin panel -> general admin -> configurations is wrong :)
also the marking of all topics as read doesn't work. also probably cookie related.

Also, the icon that shows if there are new posts in a forums don't update in the same session. They used to. Now they're only updated after I login next, like IB boards. Could that be a cookie problem too?

yes. something like that is normally also caused by wrong cookie settings.
