Forum has changed

Steve wrote me some lines about changing some things at kde-forum.org:

Forum Feedback und Bugs & Wishes are now -> Forum Feedback
(often users posted here KDE bugs & wishes)

Admin & Business is now -> Admin & Installation
(we dont think we need Business or? - maybe I add it at Office & PIM)

Games & Fun -> Edutainment & Games

Multimedia & Edu -> Graphics & Multimedia
(Edu is now at Games board)

New Board: Desktop & Applications for things like konsole, x stuff, ...
(a bit like the Desktop off-topic / for other KDE/X disscussion)

I don't know if we really need the language boards... and the distributions board? For now I think about closing the language boards ... what do you think?

POST HERE!

You could kill the German board because http://kde-forum.de/ exists, but where are the other languages supposed to go?

Maybe

Maybe I should link the German board to kde-forum.de like the spanish board. What do you think?

remove language boards

I think you can look at the size of the boards, and keep the boards that are most active...or just make a single language, page where they all can post questions.

reorganisation proposal

I think there are too many forums and that the existing ones should be reorganised to maximise participation by the community. I believe something like the following would be better. Is it possible to merge or move existing forums?

I have listed the forums in what I think would be a beneficial ordering.

KDE Support
Desktop & Application Help
Questions about using the KDE desktop, various applications and office productivity software.
Installation Help
Questions about installing or troubleshooting KDE on your personal computer.
Administration & Deployment Help
Questions about administering and deploying KDE on a medium to large scale.
Miscellaneous
Issues or questions not covered by the above forums.
Tips & Tricks
Share your KDE wisdom with others.

KDE Discussion
General
Discuss general KDE-related matters and news here.
Desktop, Applications & Office
Discuss the KDE desktop, applications and office productivity software here.
Look & Feel
Discuss beautiful applications, look & feel, as well as KDE icons, styles, themes and artwork here.
Off Topic
Non-KDE related discussion.

KDE Development
KDE/Qt Programming
Discuss general KDE/Qt development issues here.
Tools
Discuss relevant tools such as KDevelop, KBabel, Quanta, Umbrello and Valgrind here.
Ideas & Proposals
Discuss the future of the KDE architecture, platform and applications here.

Other Forums
You can move other existing forums here if necessary (eg, Games) if they don't fit in the above.

I really do think it would be an improvement. Right now the forums are rather scattered and over the place.

The trick is to start out with a few forums and let them grow. If there's then a proven need for more forums, they should be added gradually. 8)

I suppose that it would be the best that for those topics the word KDE is not used. So the title should only be "Forum". Otherwise some users will think that it is here the main discussion. (Isn't the URL kde-forum.org?)

Alternatively something like "Forum Intern" could be a solution too.

Have a nice day!

Replacing the German board with a link to kde-forum.de sounds good.

I am here

Navin I am there :D

Your structure "removes" a few boards like Multimedia so I dont know if this is the right change at the moment I am thinking about a structure like yours but a 2 or 3 more boards...

Then I am working on new code for the board. A section for HowTos and more is *needed* so I am working at the moment on.

Hi,

I realise this will create orphaned boards but I truly think it is necessary. Why do you believe a whole discussion forum dedicated to Multimedia is needed? This just splits a very small community trying to follow threads across forums unnecessarily.

We need to build a larger community first before we can decide that new forums needed! If you are worried about orphaning existing boards: This is what the "Other Forums" section is supposed to hold... although it would probably be better that the forums there be kept for reference only and not new posts.

I think you have to think carefully and check the demand before adding more forums to a board which has too many already. We need to be strong and vibrant first, baby steps are important. :D

I see no need for a HOWTO section, the KDE Wiki is better for this.

Forum change

I know you are right ... boards here and boards there ... what we need is the "perfect mix". I will play today around with ideas and then post my preReady idea here.
