KDE 3.3 changes the order of my icons

Hi all, maybe there's an easy fix for this I'm missing. I was happily looking through my shiny new KDE 3.3 and I noticed that my desktop icons weren't lined up, so I right clicked on the desktop > Align Icons Vertically and they did line up, but the order has been completely changed. I've tried everything I can think of, but I can't get 3.3 to line them up in the order I set them in. I was able to do this under 3.2 easily, is this a new hardcoded thing in 3.3, or am I missing something?

My desktop icons are a mess now as well.

When I select Align Vertical or Align Horizontal it aligns all the icons all on ONE line. With Align to Grid selected the empty space between icons is just too obnoxiously huge to be of any benefit, and I can't find anywhere a setting to change the padding between desktop icons.

With Align to Grid turned off, it's nearly impossible for me to get my icons placed accurately. Minor pixel adjustments just can't be accomplished.
