ohmygod whathaveidone?!

okay, a quick caveat before i begin:
I know it has been advised not to hang out logged in as root,
but i can't seem to get kde (on slack 9.0) to share my internet connection
with any other user so in the meantime......

i'm playing with some different taskbar toys, and i check out the weather
tool. Its neat, i leave it on until im done for the evening, log out and power down. Next time i run kde the weather program automatically starts up and tries to find the website, but my only connection is dialup, and im not connected yet, so an error pops up, something like unable to connect to weather.org. i hit ok, it pops up again, and again, and again. hitting alt-escape i try to kill the program- this doesn't seem to help. finally by clicking 19000 ok's i get past it, but the taskbar is frozen. anything else works on the desktop just no icons from the taskbar. I'm stuck.
is there anyway to reset my startup prefrences? even if its the prefrences for root?
please help?!

I had something similar to that happen to me. Nautilus would boot up a bazillion times when KDE started up. Sorry to say, my cure was creating a new profile. How about fixing this internet problem? You can't connect in any profile with Kinternet?

Suggestion

Try creating another user and logging into KDE that way. Once logged in go to:
KMenu / System / More Programs / File manager - Super User Mode. "Enter yr ROOT passsword" Now yr in Super User Mode!

While as SU go into "/root/.kde/share/config" and delete everything inside that directory. What that will do is give you a fresh start as ROOT. Everything you have done as far as yr personal setting should pretty much be reset.

I know that stinks, but hey! it should solve yr problem...

Good Luck!
