How to modify automatic copying of selected text

Currently in KDE 3.1, when one selects some text, it is automatically copied to the clipboard. This functionality is annoying to me. For example, I'll select some text I want to replace some other text, copy the text, select the old text, and try to paste the new text there, but the old text will have been auto-copied and is now in the top position waiting to be pasted. I can go to Klipper and select the new text that I really wanted to paste, but that is time consuming. (I hope I'm making some sense :) )

Is there a way to set it like the old method where the auto-copied text was only pasted when the third mouse button was pressed and cut-and-pasted text operated on a second buffer? Thank you for your help.

P.S. KDE 3.1 is awesome! 8)

Did you try with Klipper configuration options? "Separate clipboard and selection"?
