Problems with YAHOO! via Kopete

Hi there.

I have just gotten SuSe Linux again after many years, and a, using (or at least trying to use) Kopete as my "chat client".. I think it's neat to have one client to handle more than one "chat" but:
Yahoo! doesn't really work. ICQ works just fine, but with Yahoo I often can't see the messages and get errors, joining a chat with more than one person is not possible (does that feature exist? I can't seem to find it at least) because I don't get the invites...

The error I mostly get when a message can't be displayed is:
An internal Kopete error occurred while parsing a message:
XML document could not be parsed!

And that tells me as much as "Make a Ring of 5-5-5 cl turn" to you ;-)

I would appreciate any help :-)

For this, in most cases, its one of two things.
A) You have not selected a default chat layout in the bahavior section or
B) You do not have libxml or libxslt,
In the case of 'b' try doing a search of rpm.pbone.net for a SuSE rpm of these packages.

Hi there.

I checked, and I have libxml and libxslt. And (what makes matters worse somehow) I also have selected a default chat layout, so I'm somewhat helpless still :-/

One more thing though: I get this error with just one user (so far), with two others it works fine, I just can never join a chat of more than 2 people....
So: If one person messages me it usually works, but if they try to invite me into a chat I don't even get the invite... does that make sense?
Also: When I don't have the message window opened kopete opens this little yellow "bubble" with the start of the persons message, but as soon as I click view I get the error.
Another Problem (the list keeps growing..) is: One user I see as being online when she is online, but the other two are always maked offline even when they clearly are online because they are sending me messages. But I don't know wether that's because they marked themselves invisible or what....

As you can clearly see: you are facing a newbie ;-) and I do need help, too :-)

thanks!
Nicole

As far as I know (and I may be completely wrong...) Kopete is still using the web based Yahoo! authentication ever since the last problems with the Yahoo! service. The problem with that is that connections seem to time out (though you don't actually get notified of that and think that you're still online). Another slight problem is that with the web based authentication pretty much all of the features of the Yahoo! protocol become unavailable........

Anything else I can do to ruin your day? ;)

What I can say though is that Gaim suffer(s|ed) the same authentication problems. I applied an unofficial and slightly debated patch to Gaim (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=875191&group_id=235&atid=300235) and now Yahoo! works flawlessly in Gaim again. Unfortunately I'm stuck with this until Yahoo! becomes somewhat reliable in Kopete since Yahoo! is what I use for the major part of my messaging needs.....
