Well, I did it! Sick of the bad service over three years from my web presence provider; I purchased a PC with Linux to serve up my domain from my LAN at home. So far, so bad. Here's the configuration, the observations and my plea for some advice.

- Windows ME and XP PCs (three of 'em)
- Linksys router @ 192.192.192.1 providing DHCP
- Arescom DSL modem @ 192.168.1.1 providing DNS
- all of the above running a-okay
- cheap PC w/ 733MHz Via processor, 256MB, ThizLinux & KDE

Observations:

- the Linux PC CAN call up the router's config page via http in Navigator
- it CANNOT get to the Internet OR call the DSL config page
- I tried & failed with DHCP assigning IP addresses to the LinuxPC
- I set the static IP to 192.192.192.4 on the Linux PC

That's the situation except I noted different subnet masks for the router and the DSL modem. Weird, but it IS working for the Windows PCs. I need some help here. I want to get a browser connection stable and then press on to configuring Samba for the Linux PC.

All help appreciated! I'm taking a class in the spring on this stuff and joining a user group here in Portland. Basically, I'm investing this time so that I control my domain instead of people I've never met.
