System Bell

My computer has speakers on the monitor and then some sort of internal speaker. The internal speaker was giving me system bell sounds, but also music or anything else that was outputted to the monitor speakers. I had the internal speaker disconnected since it would ouput music I was listening to even if I had headphones plugged in. Now, I don't have any system bell sounds.

Ideally, I'd like either only system bell sounds to come out of the internal speaker and all music and system notifications to come out of the monitor speakers. Or, if all sounds, including the system bell, went to the monitor speakers that would be fine too.

I did try adding system notifications in Konsole for "Bell emitted within a visible session" and "Bell emitted within a non-visible session", which tested fine when I hit the play button, but I couldn't get it to work through using Konsole (although maybe I didn't create the right situation for the bell to sound!)

I'm wondering where I may find the settings to make these changes?

I'm not terribly well-versed in the workings of KDE along with the underlying settings in Linux so I'd appreciate any and all help on this problem, or help with general sound settings as well.

I'm not so sure about the notifications, except that in regards with the music, depending on the audio player that you use, you can choose the output device which is used. Amarok, xmms and juk(afaik) support this.

I'm not sitting in front on the Linux machine now, but I did not find a way to make Juk not play through the internal speaker. Besides, there are other programs such as gaim that I don't want to use system notifications through the internal speaker and the options for setting sound were pretty much enabling or disabling or choosing a custom .wav. I'd like to do something global, if possible, so it would still apply to programs with limited sound settings.

You could try and change the device location for all of kde:

Kcontrol > Sound and Multimedia > Sound System > Hardware Tab

Check the box Override device location and add a custom location.

I have no idea where that location would be. How should I go about looking for the sound devices?

Have you diabled control center => sound & multimedia => system bell, if enabled?
-- rm -fr /etc/whitehouse
-- Gentoo | udev | Xorg 6.8.2 | 2.6.14-r4 | KDE 3.5.0
