Any Midi?

Hello! I have just this week installed my first ever Linux and am pretty happy with SuSE - especially the winmodem that works faster than it ever did under Win98!

Anyway, I have a problem playing midi files - I have CD, Real, wav (not tried MP3 yet) but no midi playback. I have correct settings in Volume Control. KMid opens when I click on a midi, the progress bar moves but no sound!

I gather that there are problems in this area but would like to be able to play these files so any ideas would be appreciated.

Charlie.

I vaguely remember that SuSE has a command line midi player. Perhaps you could test it (without KDE running.) So you could know at which level the problem is (sound driver or KDE.)

Have a nice day!

PS.: You probably need a command line mixer too.

If you try to use MIDI with ALSA on KDE 3.1.x, there seems to have been a problem with it. It seems to have been corrected (however after KDE 3.1.4.)

Have a nice day!

Well, it is not sure if a KDE 3.1.5 will exist. At this exact moment, the odds are rather good, as KOffice has a problem with KDE 3.1.4. (But if the problem is bigger, we might switch completely to KDE 3.2 with KOffice and no KDE 3.1.5 will exist.)

Have a nice day!
