oening mpeg in linux

how we run the mpeg files in linux? i use redhat9 distribution, cause when i double clicked the file its open kboodle and its dont run, only open the kboodle

you need some specific libraries, something like mpg123 or mpg321. the latter is a free software alternative i think. im not sure but i think these support video, otherwise they'd just do mp3 audio. if im wrong please somebody correct me.

Most people who like nice GUI's choose xine, the rest will want to use mplayer (as it is superiour to xine in many aspects). for mplayer there is a great KDE frontend available called KMPlayer, kxine is also available. KMPlayer has neat features like being able to embed it everywhere, for example Konqueror.

One note on xine or mplayer; you should always build these from the source. IF there's xine or mplayer available for your Redhat 9 by RedHat corporation itself you should not use those as those are most likely to be crippled (some key features being disabled to avoid the chance of lawsuits etc.). Both players provide RPM's if you don't want to compile them yourself.
