Chinese and Japanese on KDE - Help for non native users.

I'm neither Japanese nor Chinese but need to use (type and read) these languages on my computers (they have KDE whether they are Linux, Mac or Windows).

My big problem is all the posts helping on configuring these languages are either in Japanese or Chinese, that are still slow to read for me. So I would like to gather here tips (in English) on the setup of these languages on KDE, which could become later a source for a new HOW-TO.

My first question will be : how to input Chinese characters on KDE (Linux Mandrake 9.1) .

Any one can help me ?
I use KDE everywhere: on Linux, Mac, and even Windows (with cygwin) ! :D

As I progress I'll be more specific on my question:

- does anyone know how to configure xcin with KDE ?
- is anyone aware of resources dealing with KDE internationalization ?

Take a look at http://i18n.kde.org which is the KDE Internationalization project. However it appears that KDE 3.2.0 is devoid of internationalization for Japanese... what's up with that?

I'm also neither Japanese nor Chinese but I tend to make use of Japanese input and reading nonetheless. You might also want to take a look at programs like kiten.
