screen resolution

im using redhat 9.0, when i installed it i got a window that asked me what resolution i would like to set my screen to. now i have decided i want to change that but cant find where to do it. help!javascript:emoticon(%27%3A?')

You can modify the XF86Config file directly

the file you need to edit is probably '/etc/X11/XF86Config-4'

Look for the following section:

<snip>
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "ATI Graphics Adapter connector 0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection
EndSection

You need to modify the 'Modes' line, place the resolution you want to use at the front of the list of resolutions (dont forget o use "'s )

Restart the X server and X should be in the first mode on the list.

You can also cycle the modes whilst in X using Ctrl Alt +/-

It's possible that the XF86Config looks a little bit different, because there are several ways to combine the sections. For a good description go to http://www.xfree86.org or use this link:
