Can I change Task List Icon

When I run non KDE applications the icon on the task list (in the Panel) is always a big X. Is there any way to customise this icon?

Thanks!

Check a .desktop file for a KDE application to see how it specifies the icon.

Then create/change the applications .desktop file the same way

No, that's not it...

The desktop icon is correct, but when the application is started, you get an X in the tasklist not the icon set on the desktop. I checked some of the KDE desktop files but they just have an Icon= line in them, the same as the one I set up.

KDE looks for icons in the following directorys:

$KDEDIR/share/icons
$KDEDIRS/share/icons
$KDEHOME/share/icons
or if KDEHOME is not set
$HOME/.kde/share/icons

They "are categorized per theme, dimension and usage category"[1].

Just copy the icon to the right place, and it should have the same name like the app.

Ok, if the .desktop file is correct, you are just missing the icon in the right size.
Perhaps its the 16x16 sized icon or the 22x22
