Configure Panel not working

Hello,

I am newbie here and have a question about Configure Panel.

I installed RedHat 8.0 and have recently upgraded to KDE3.1.1. I tried to configure the panel by roght click the pane->Configure Panel.... but nothing happens. Anyone has any idea?

Thanks

Sound like KDE cannot find the plugin for the panel config.
If your run kcontrol (Contol Center on task bar) and click on Desktop/Panels what happens?

Make sure KDEDIR is set by typing cat $KDEDIR in a terminal window.
The panel applets are usually located in $KDEDIR/lib/kde3

Try to launch kcmkicker from the commandline.

Did you forget to install the new redhat-menus.rpm from the noarch/ directory?

I think Rince meant you should run "kcmshell panel" from the command line to see if the modules are installed.

kcmshell panel

Couldn't find that one, TNX!!

But kcmkicker also does the trick over here. (in the minicli, not from the commandline itself, I now noticed )

Rinse, Sorry for misspelling your name up there.

Interesting about kcmkicker only running in minicli. It does not appear to be a program, but a built in command somewhere as I can not locate the file......

James

minicli also looks at .desktop-files in kmenu.
Perhaps one of those uses that name.
