Yes! Obsolete the Dolphin. But keep it for newbies. Concentrate now on Konqueror's file management abilities. (3)

Keep both Dolphin and Konqueror and develop them both in tandem. (1)

I LOVE ALL ANIMALS (and Ponies, too) Please don't kill the Dolphin or the Konqueror.

I LOVE ANIMALS too. But Konqueror's are meanies. Kill them all and SAVE THE DOLPHINS!

Dearest KDE guys:

I have been a dedicated KDE user since KDE 1.0. As soon as KDE came out I instantly switched from the other alternatives. When Konqueror came out I was finally able to ditch my Windows setup almost completely due to its advanced features.

Therefore I am completely dumbfounded as to why you would try to replace it with the utter joke that is Dolphin. While you say that Konqueror File Management has been brought back in KDE 4.1, this is simply not true. If I exec 'kfmclient openProfile filemanagement' basically what I get is Dolphin in a window that says Konqueror at the top. This is NOT sufficient for my, or any power users, needs, and it most certainly is NOT Konqueror. You also state that tree view is back in 4.1, but that is also not true AFAIK. I cannot find anywhere a "tree view" which even approximates the functionality of Konqueror.

While I understand that development takes time, this version of KDE should not have been released with such a pitiful file manager. There are tens of thousands, if not millions, of users which rely on the file management abilities of Konqueror to do our jobs and manage our personal systems every day. While it is "possible" to use Dolphin for some tasks, it is certainly not desirable and is akin to going back to Gnome or Windows Explorer. Even Norton File Manager or Krusader is better than Dolphin. So it's like going back in time 20 years or so.

Many others have gone into tirades about the other aspects of KDE 4. While there seem to still be a few bugs in my system, probably as a result of crappy Nvidia drivers, I think that overall KDE 4 is a major step forward, except for Dolphin. . .

Please kill the Dolphin! Or at least fix Konqueror. . .

I whole-heartedly agree. I'll be filing bug reports about the new konqueror all night -- I almost cried at first. Fortunately my distribution of choice has a group of rebels maintaining a KDE3 fork, so I'll be going back as soon as I can, but not before I've filed a report for every bug and stupid feature.

It took me days of trying out different file managers before I finally figured out that konqueror was the one that best met my needs -- and now they've gone and killed off most of the features that set it apart from the others.

And don't even talk to me about dolphin. If I wanted a file manager for mentally challenged people, I'd have bought a Mac or installed Gnome.

Yeah I hated dolphin at first, but I've managed to get it set up pretty much like the old midnight commander Konqueror profile, complete with tree view and terminal, specific settings for each folder.

I find the interface pretty Mac-y, not very functional without first having a good look in all the corners and submenus, to find the settings and keystrokes. It's kinda got the 'my first browser' settings as defaults. Getting used to the + and - icon selection method has led to a few hiccups!

So I've got Dolphin pretty much running OK for my basic uses now, just need a few more of them open then Konqueror3 :)
