KDE 4.1 softkeys(?) do not work

Hello,
I hope this is the right section to post.
I use kubuntu 8.04, with both KDE 3.5.9 & KDE 4.1, on a Dell Laptop XPS 1530
While in KDE 3.5.x the buttons for sound (ps the sound can be controlled by kmix, but buttons are faster 2 use) and brightness work perfect, that is not the case in KDE 4.x.x
I was wandering if this a distro problem or it is because of KDE 4.xxx and if there is something I could do about it.
